CHARLEY M. DRUMMOND, PROFESSIONAL INSURANCE DEFENSE
I was born and raised in Jasper, Alabama, the son of a coal miner and stay-at-home mom. I didn't take the "traditional route" to practicing law. After obtaining my B.S. Degree in Business Management from The University of Alabama, I spent the better part of a decade working in the construction and automotive manufacturing industries before deciding to pursue a legal career. I worked full-time for a large insurance defense firm while attending Birmingham School of Law at night, where I graduated Summa Cum Laude and earned by J.D. in 2009. I have spent the vast majority of my legal career representing businesses both large and small.
I'm best known for defending employers and insurers in workers' compensation cases throughout the state of Alabama. I regularly practice in the circuit courts of all 67 counties, as well as The Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and Supreme Court of Alabama. I have tried countless workers' compensation cases, and have numerous published opinions in the appellate courts. I'm a recent past-President of both The Alabama State Bar Workers' Compensation Section and The American Bar Association's Workers' Compensation Committee. In addition to be actively involved in those organizations, I am also a member of The Alabama Workers’ Compensation Organization (AWCO), the Alabama Workers’ Compensation Defense Lawyers Association (AWCDLA), the Alabama Defense Lawyers’ Association (ADLA), the Alabama Self-Insurers Association (ASIA), Birmingham Bar Association, and The Risk Management Society (RIMS). I am a former adjunct professor of Alabama workers' compensation law at Birmingham School of Law, and I frequently speak at conferences and professional seminars for other attorneys, judges, insurance adjusters, risk managers, and employer representatives.
In addition to my extensive workers' compensation practice, I also represent companies in employment matters, government regulation matters (primarily OSHA and FMSCA compliance), contractual disputes, and general liability cases. I also represent insurers in regard to contractual disputes and coverage issues.
While I admit that I am proud of my professional accomplishments, I am even more proud of my two sons, Will and Jett. Being their father is my most important job, and that is the only thing I enjoy more than helping Alabama's businesses continue to thrive. At the end of the day, all businesses exist so that the owners and employees of those businesses can support the families they love. I am honored and blessed to have the opportunity to help your business so that I can support the family that I love. For me, it is truly the most enjoyable and rewarding way to earn a living.
